Why Sunshine Coast owners choose a farm stay

A dog board and train that is the opposite of a busy coast class

Looking for a dog trainer Sunshine Coast dog owners can rely on? The coast is not short of trainers, classes and doggy daycares. They suit plenty of dogs. But an anxious or reactive dog often needs the exact opposite of a busy room: space, quiet and routine. A dog board and train gives them that, on open country away from the noise.

Plenty of Sunshine Coast dogs are flat out overstimulated, juggling beach crowds, dog parks, apartments and traffic. A residential dog training stay lets them step out of all of it and reset. When a weekly coastal class has not shifted the behaviour, an immersive country stay often does. For the full philosophy, see our reward-based dog training programs.

Specialist support

The dogs we train best

Our work centres on emotional balance and confidence, not just commands, which is what a busy, fast-growing region of overstimulated dogs really needs. If a standard coast class has not delivered lasting results, your dog is exactly who we are built for. Each focus is localised to the Sunshine Coast and backed by our main dog training service page.

Anxious Dog Training

Patient, step-by-step anxious dog training that lowers stress and helps tense, overstimulated coast dogs learn to settle. We move at your dog’s pace, far from the crowds.

Nervous & Reactive Dogs

Gentle nervous dog training and reactive dog support for dogs that struggle on busy footpaths and packed dog beaches. We rebuild confidence around calm, balanced dogs.

Rescue Dog Training

Sensitive rescue dog training for adopted and shut-down dogs. We build trust first, with a structured, low-pressure place to decompress away from coastal chaos.

Dog confidence building

Dog confidence building through farm walks, enrichment and managed pack time, so a worried dog learns to cope calmly with the world it returns to.

Local context

From the busy coast to 160 quiet acres

The Sunshine Coast looks like a dog’s paradise on paper: off-leash beaches at Currimundi, Wurtulla, Buddina and Stumers Creek, fenced parks at Brightwater, Buderim and Little Mountain, and the Glass House Mountains as a backdrop. The catch is that they are busy. On a sunny weekend the dog beaches are teeming, and for a reactive or anxious dog that constant stimulation is the problem, not the cure.

A residential country stay flips that on its head. Instead of more arousal, your dog gets quiet space, routine and structured training, then returns to the coast far better able to cope with it. The drive north is part of the reset, and for many overstimulated coast dogs it is the first proper exhale they have had in months.

01

Assessment

We start with an honest read of your dog’s temperament, triggers and goals. Many Sunshine Coast dogs arrive over-aroused from constant beach and park stimulation, so the plan always fits the dog in front of us.

02

Settle & Decompress

A calm settling-in period on the farm, well away from the coast. Decompressing from packed dog beaches and busy weekends is often the missing first step, and we never rush it.

03

Daily Training

Structured daily sessions: recall, impulse control and loose lead walking, plus calm pack walks across the paddocks, the opposite of a chaotic Saturday at Currimundi or Mooloolaba.

04

Handover

You collect a calmer dog and learn how to hold the results back home on the coast, with pick-up and drop-off available across the Sunshine Coast to make it easy.

Our signature 2-week program

How the Stay & Train program works

Our Stay & Train is a residential dog training stay on a peaceful country farm. Sometimes called a board and train program, it lets your Sunshine Coast dog board with us while getting structured training support every day, away from the distractions of the coast. Here is the path every dog follows.

The whole-dog difference

More than commands. A calmer dog, body and mind

Physical tension and emotional stress often travel together, and coast dogs carry plenty of both. Our reward-based training pairs positive reinforcement with body and mind support, so your dog can release tension and learn in a clear, receptive state. No daycare or weekly class on the Sunshine Coast can offer this.

Animal communication to ease anxiety and read what your dog feels.

Bowen therapy to relax the body and soothe the nervous system.

Working dog know-how, from raising and training Kelpies, for dogs who need a real job to focus.

Quiet acreage to reset, away from the crowded coast.

Meet the trainer behind the method on our about page, or pair training with a longer farmhouse boarding stay.

Trained by someone who lives with dogs every day

On a coast full of busy classes and daycares, we deliberately offer something quieter and more personal. The Mutts Nuts is led by Julia Powell, who has spent years raising and training working Kelpies and has a particular soft spot for anxious, nervous and rescue dogs.

That working-dog background means calm structure and clear communication come naturally, and every plan is built around the dog in front of her. Read Julia’s full story on the about page.

Pick-up and drop-off across the Sunshine Coast

The farm is a scenic drive north of the coast, and for many dogs that drive is the start of the holiday. We offer pick-up and drop-off so your dog travels safely to and from training without you losing a day to the round trip, which is what makes a residential dog training stay realistic for busy Sunshine Coast households.

Transport, stay lengths and Stay & Train pricing are all on our rates page. Not sure what your dog needs? A quick phone chat is the fastest way to find out.

Our commitment

Our promise to your dog

For coast dogs who need calm over chaos, here is exactly what we commit to.

One dog at a time

No crowded kennel runs and no busy classes. Your dog gets genuine individual attention, every day of the stay.

Reward-based, always

Positive reinforcement only. No fear, no force and no harsh corrections, at any point.

We settle, then train

Every dog gets a calm decompression period first, because a relaxed dog is one that can actually learn.

Honest advice

If a residential stay is not the right fit for your dog, we will tell you that before you book.

You stay in the loop

Regular updates on how your dog is settling and progressing, so you are never left wondering.

Cared for like family

Farm walks, enrichment and whole-dog support across 160 acres, not just a few drills in a yard.

Good questions

Sunshine Coast dog training FAQs

Most of our Sunshine Coast dog training happens as a residential Stay & Train. Your dog boards on our 160-acre farm and follows a structured daily routine of reward-based training: assessment, a settling-in period, then daily sessions covering obedience training, recall, impulse control and loose lead walking, finished with a handover so you can hold the results at home.

For the right dog, absolutely. Stepping away from beach crowds, dog parks and apartment living is often the missing ingredient. A dog board and train on quiet acreage gives an overstimulated or reactive coast dog the space to reset that no busy class can match. We also handle pick-up and drop-off.

Yes, when it is done gently. Anxious, nervous and reactive dogs often need a few days to decompress before real learning starts, especially after the constant stimulation of the coast. Anxious dog training and rescue dog training are a core focus for us, alongside dog confidence building.

Yes. Coast dogs with separation anxiety often need to come down from constant stimulation before progress is possible. We combine structure and confidence building with body-based support like Bowen therapy, and assess honestly whether a country stay suits your dog.

Reward-based, every time. We use positive reinforcement, clear communication and trust rather than the quick-fix corrections sometimes sold around the coast, guided by an experienced dog behaviourist. No fear, no punishment.

We offer pick-up and drop-off across the Sunshine Coast, from the coastal suburbs through to the hinterland localities listed above. Distances and transport costs are on our rates page, and local pet rules are explained by the Sunshine Coast Council.
