About Julia Powell

I am a qualified animal behaviourist, dog trainer, and owner of The Mutts Nuts, a unique home-based Stay & Train retreat located on a 160-acre farm in the North Burnett region of Queensland.

For more than ten years I have worked with rescue dogs, rehabilitation cases, and dogs struggling with anxiety, confidence issues, and behavioural challenges. I have also bred, raised and trained working Kelpies, giving me extensive experience with canine behaviour, communication and training.

My approach is different from many traditional training programs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all method, I focus on understanding each dog as an individual. Every dog has their own history, personality, experiences and emotional needs, and I believe lasting behavioural change comes from addressing the root cause of a problem rather than simply managing symptoms.

My work combines practical behaviour and training techniques with a holistic approach that supports the dog’s overall wellbeing. This may include nervous system regulation, structured routines, confidence building, enrichment, Bowen therapy, Reiki and collaboration with trusted professionals, including animal communication practitioners, where appropriate.

I specialise in helping anxious, nervous and rescue dogs develop confidence, emotional stability and stronger relationships with their owners. My goal is to create calm, balanced dogs that can thrive at home and in everyday life.

Dogs who stay at The Mutts Nuts are treated as family members, living in a home environment with plenty of individual attention, farm walks, enrichment activities and personalised support.

My mission is simple: happier dogs, happier owners and lasting results built on trust, understanding and genuine connection.
