A real holiday, not a kennel

Why Hervey Bay dog owners choose a farm stay

Leaving your dog behind is hard when they are part of the family. On the Fraser Coast your choices are often a row of concrete kennels or a stranger minding your dog at home. We do something different. Your dog joins daily life on a working 160-acre farm, with open space to explore, a comfortable bed inside the homestead and a calm, structured routine.

Because we only ever host six dogs at a time, every guest gets genuine attention from a qualified animal behaviourist, not a busy kennel run. It is the kind of stay that suits confident dogs and nervous ones alike.

  • Homestay, not a kennel. Dogs relax indoors with comfy bedding and are part of the family, not locked in a concrete run.
  • 160 acres to roam. Open paddocks, pack walks and real farm adventures each day.
  • Only six guests. A small, calm group means close supervision and individual care.

Your dog is in expert hands

The Mutts Nuts was founded by Julia Powell, a qualified animal behaviourist and dog trainer with more than ten years working with rescue dogs, rehabilitation cases and dogs living with anxiety. Julia has bred, raised and trained working Kelpies, and believes lasting change comes from understanding the root cause of a behaviour rather than simply managing it.

That same patient, reward-based approach shapes every boarding stay. Your dog is not just minded here. They are understood.

Hervey Bay dog boarding questions

Do you pick up and drop off in Hervey Bay?

Yes. We offer pick-up and drop-off across Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the wider Fraser Coast. Drop-offs are welcomed in the morning and collections in the afternoon, daily except Wednesday. Let us know your suburb when you enquire and we will confirm the easiest arrangement.

Where exactly does my dog stay?

On our 160-acre family farm at Degilbo, a country setting just inland from the Fraser Coast. Your dog lives inside the homestead with comfortable bedding and roams open paddocks during the day. There are no concrete kennels or cages.

How many dogs do you board at once?

Only six. Keeping the group small means calmer surroundings, closer supervision and real one-on-one attention for every dog. It also means spaces fill quickly in school holidays, so it is worth booking early.

Can you board an anxious or rescue dog?

Absolutely, it is what we do best. Julia is a qualified animal behaviourist who specialises in nervous, reactive and rescue dogs. The calm farm, the small group and a patient, reward-based approach help worried dogs feel safe and settled.

Can boarding be combined with training?

Yes. Our Stay and Train option pairs a farm holiday with structured, reward-based dog training, so your dog comes home calmer and better mannered. You can read more on our dog training page.

What should I bring, and how do I book?

Your dog's usual food, any medication and a familiar item or two helps them settle. To book, send an enquiry below, call 0450 439 555, or view current pricing on our rates page.
